Buns and Plaits

Plaits and buns are well known for being in most Elizabethan hair styles. Here, I spent my practical session practicing no doughnut buns and 3 different plaits- Basic- French- Fishtail

French-

First Attempt
Second Attempt

This is my first every attempt at a french plait. After 3 failed attempts to start it off I finally did it which was a huge relief and I think that not giving up at this point helped me get to the stage I am at now. My first attempt was not upto industry standard however, it was to me a great first full attempt.
My first plait was loose at the top and got quite messy and uneven towards the end.
The third image is my second attempt on the other side of my dolls head and with me adjusting the head stick and using more tension in my hands it came out alot better than the first! The top was alot tighter and the overall plait was more clean and sleek. I would say that the french plait is probably the hardest out the three plaits I completed in today's session.

Fishtail!

My first attempt at a fishtail plait went surprisingly well, I found this the easier of the 3 plaits we did because it was a lot more simpler. I think most of my strands of hair are equal however, I need to remember to ensure the hair is brushes properly so it's smooth.

Basic!
Basic plaiting is another I surprisingly find more difficult. I always find my plaits are very loose and messy and always have height on them from the root making them stick upwards a little. These are things I need to address.

No Doughnut Buns!

My first 'No Doughnut' Bun. I have always been able to create near perfect buns with the doughnuts help so I did find this technique quite tricky. Overall, I did this in my first attempt which I am pleased with. I did find that putting the hair pins in was pretty difficult. My hair was quite messy on the one side of my bun (pictured) which I need to address and work on.

Extra Practice-

Here I did use a doughnut to create this look, I now no longer like using them as I feel very proud that i can create this without any help! However I think its a good practice image due to the fishtail plait being around the bun. This style referenced the Elizabethan era.

This is a modern image but of a historically correct hair style. I like the ribbon work.

I absoloutley love this image! If I could have copied an entire look for this assessment I would of copied this one! It has several plait designs in and it more of a historical hair style but done in modern times.
